This information mostly applies to those whom already have live Enlight courses and want to look at adding this templates feature. If you are starting new with Enlight then it is not such a concern as you don't have current live courses that could be affected.
As themes can potentially apply to all your courses and all views in your courses, some care in applying them is recommended(!). It is very simple and you can very easily change/undo settings if you do make a mistake - but for your peace-of-mind reading the following is suggested.
Option 1: Turn off all the optional settings:
As theme changes are live, and as you don't want to publish to every student a theme you are just testing - it is best to start with all three settings (explained in Course Themes - Setting themes to courses) unticked (i.e. turned off).
Option 2: Limit trial theme to only one course:
Alternatively if you want to test on one specific course first, you can leave the organisation theme selection as Enlight.Default, leave the first two options unticked (off) and turn on the third option - "Allow theme override ...".
Then go to the course(s) you want to test your theme on (be it a draft course or a live. published course), edit the course, choose "Course details", scroll down to the bottom of the page, and select the theme there that you wish to test. You can also turn on the "view on markings" option or "view for students" option to test those, as these will now only affect that one course - all other courses will remain set to Enlight.Default (as long as you don't set a theme manually for them too or change their settings also!).
Once you have finished testing you can apply that theme as your organisation default theme or apply it to specific other courses or not - as you wish. Anytime you want to stop a theme for a specific course just untick the "Override organisation default setting" option or manually set the theme back to Enlight.default.
