Course Themes - Setting themes to courses

You have quite some control over what theme applies to what courses and even what parts of those courses

Before you start activating any theme it is probably best to read the following article.

The default theme:

By default the Enlight.Default theme is applied to all courses and all scenarios (editing, marking, previewing, student usage etc.). This theme is plain all white background with black text - you can select and edit the theme to see the exact details if you wish (you cannot actually edit, change, or delete it).

To set another theme as the default theme:

  • Go to "ACCOUNT">"Organisation">"Course Settings"

  • Scroll to the very bottom of the page

  • You can select a theme there from all the available themes. There is a details option you can turn on or off (tick/untick the "xxxxx" box) to see all the theme settings and the theme preview.

  • Note once you scroll down and click "Save" the chosen setting will now apply to ALL your courses (unless otherwise set - see below) so you may wish to set some of the additional settings also before saving:

    • You can tick/untick the option to apply the theme to the students view (what the student sees when doing their course). If this is unticked the Enlight.Default theme will apply to the students view instead (to see what a student sees, go to a course and go to its checksheet list section, and click on the "Preview" link of any give checksheet to see it exactly as the student does).

    • You can tick/untick the option to apply the theme to the course marking screens as markers may not want/need to see all the colour and thrills when marking students answers - or maybe the do?! You have the choice to control that. If this is unticked the Enlight.Default theme will apply to the marking screen view instead

    • Lastly, you can tick/untick the option to allow individual course theme override. If you tick this then while the theme and the other two settings apply to all courses by default, it is possible to specifically change (override)these settings for specific courses. See xxx for more details.

  • Make sure you scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save" to save your setting choices

To set a theme for a specific course:

  • Go to "COURSES">"Courses" and find the course, and select "Edit"

  • Select "Courses details" and "Edit" and then scroll to the very bottom of the page

  • If the settings are greyed-out and/or there is message that the organisation-wide settings are in effect, then you cannot make changes here. You can go to the organisation setting (as per above) and tick and save the "Allow override ..." option if you want to change this.

  • You may see a message that override is on and that some of the settings of this course do not match the organisational default (i.e. override has been used). To set back to organisational defaults untick this box - if that is what you wish.

  • Otherwise, you can select a theme there from all the available themes. There is a details option you can turn on or off (tick/untick the "xxxxx" box) to see all the theme settings and the theme preview.

  • Note once you scroll down and click "Save" the chosen setting will now apply to all view of this your courses (unless otherwise set - see below) so you may wish to adjust the additional settings also before saving:

  • Make sure you scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save" to save your setting choices
