Using the "External ID" field

Use the "External ID" field to set a identifier of the student that the student can never change. This can be to reference to a student ID in your customer relationship management system (CRM), or just to record the original email address and/or name the student registered under (students can edit those fields, sometimes making it confusing as to who is/was who!).
