What language and translation support options are available in Enlight

We are happy to hear from you regarding the following, any feedback or questions or requirements you may have in this area. Some of the features or limitations may be able to be modified should there be customer requirements for such - translations is a fairly complex area so we can't promise anything, but certainly we can look at it.

We have built Enlight to accommodate multiple languages although there are some caveats and aspects to be aware of:

Translating your Enlight courses:

Per language courses:

Currently it is recommended you do your course content in your own core/primary language and then once the content is fully done, copy the course to a new course for an additional language and then manually translate all the course content. That way you are fully aware of and in control of your translated material and can be confident of the translation quality.

Obviously you would want to wait until you core content is stable and finished otherwise you may have quite a bit of work to constantly update your translated course(s) as you change the core course and care would be needed to avoid errors and inconstancies.

One caveat of this method is that each student has to sign up for only the language version applicable to them. They will not be able to swap back and forth between translations/core language if they wished to do that to clarify the content. And potentially there could be some confusions and student experience issues with students enrolling to the wrong language version etc. This is probably manageable if you are managing a few courses and only translating into one of few other languages - it may not scale well.

One advantage of this though could be to allow you to sell each course language version in a different currency. This may also take a bit to manage but could be done. See http://help.enlight.training/en/articles/10208867-student-course-purchases-management for more on that.

Single course with translations support:

We have looked at this option but currently it is not available. This option allows all students to enroll to the same course and allows them to see any and all language versions of the course at any time. However the managing of course content and keeping all translations in alignment can be difficult and t is not correctly recommended at this time - but let us know if you feel this is what you need!

In this scenario it also means you could only sell you course in one currency, vs the ability to sell each translated course in its own currency in the above first option above.

Translating the student Enlight experience

In addition to your content there is the whole student environment - logging in, menus, messages, emails etc. Enlight has language support for these and the majority of the student facing text is translatable and currently translated in Chinese (Traditional) and Japanese.

If you wish to provide Enlight to students of other language(s) than these it is possible that with a little assistance from you we could do so - there is a fairly small list of words and phrases etc. used in the student Enlight experience which we could provide you - if you could do a one-off translation of those then we could enter it into Enlight ... giving you (and actually any other customer whom wants it) that language support.

We are also happy to take translation suggestions or improvements feedback at any time for the student environment and in many case such feedback can be implemented very quickly into Enlight.

Translating the staff Enlight experience

Your supervisors and instructors and managers use Enlight to cerate content, structure courses, enroll students, and supervise them through their learning. There is a whole interface, menu system, options settings, and notifications only seen by staff. If your staff are not native language readers they may wish to view these in their own language. Enlight also has language support for these and the majority of the staff facing text is translatable and (same as for students) currently translated in Chinese (Traditional) and Japanese.

Translation to other languages is the same as for student text above - although there is a bit more to be translated! It is not that much really, just more than for students. If you wanted Enlight in a language for your staff users and could provide even just some of the translations, that would then be available in Enlight to help your staff.

Same as for students text, we are happy to take translation suggestions or improvements feedback at any time for the staff environment and in many case such feedback can be implemented very quickly into Enlight.

Want to help translate the student or staff environments?

As stated above such translation can be added with quite little work. We're are seeking help for translations in Italian, Hungarian, French, German and Russian, and other languages. We'd be happy to hear from you about this at any time.
