By default an instructor can only mark their own messages as read (or unread), but the bulk "Mark All As Read" option has an "override" function that can allow an instructor, supervisor, or manager to do this for another instructors messages. This may be something you need to do if an instructor is away, there messages have been attended to, but they still show an "unread" status etc.
Note: Due to the power of this function you may wish to leave it turned off and only turn it on briefly when you need someone do do this (mark as read another instructors messages).
Turning on this function:
By default this function is disabled.
To turn it on:
Got to "Organisation" > "Miscellaneous" and find the option "Allow users to mark-as-read other users notifications"
Select the user Role level you wish to be able to do this (function will be available for that Role and all senior roles)
Click "Save"
To turn it off:
Repeat the above but select "None" as the Role.
Using this function:
Once enabled, if you filter notification messages as per the "Mark all as read" instructions (on Managing Notifications - The Notifications Page) - i.e. one only of "Answers" or "Chats" and not "Include Read" - AND select a different instructor than yourself - you will see an "Override" checkbox appear.
If you tick that, then the disabled "Mark All As Read" button will become enabled.
Notes:
The button is in a warning colour - please take care using this function as there is no "undo" and you cannot even manually revert the messages to "unread" (only the actual instructor can do that and only message-by-message). But if you are happy with the selection go ahead and use this button to mark them all as read.
You can refine the filter results by also selecting individual students also and only "Mark all as read" for that student.
You can even select "All Instructors" and do the same thing - but again there is no undo - so please be even more careful!
