The Notifications page has been updated!

New filtering menu:

The old (and confusing) buttons have been replaced by the new filter options that we have added to some other pages previously - now this is also on the Notifications page. For information about using this filter feature, including saving your preferred default settings(!) see: Display and filter option settings.

You can now filter the Notifications page to show:

  • Answers messages

  • Chats messages

  • Limit to unread only or show read messages also

  • View per instructor or view for "All Instructors" - by default it we select you as the instructor when you first visit the page

  • View for a specific student or for "All Students" - by default it is set to all students, additionally students already showing can be filtered ... so set your other settings first then use the student filter if desired after that

New columns:

Additionally a new columns have been added:

  • Status - this shows if the message has been marked as "read" or is still "unread" (and so needing your attention). Furthermore "read" messages are highlighted by a darker line background than the unread messages

  • Student - this shows the student whom sent the message

Attending to unread messages:

While you can view chat messages and lessons of any student and even respond to them only the course instructor can mark the messages as read. This means an instructor is always aware of their student's messages even if some other instructor or supervisor helps the student.

There are a few ways to set a message to "have read" status:

  • To set a message to read click the "View" link under actions - it will take you to the student chat page or the mark student lessons page depending on the message - and it will automatically mark the message as having been read.

  • Alternatively, if you have already seen the message/ know another instructor has attended to it etc., you can click "Acknowledge" to just set it to "read" status without having to view it again.

  • And finally, if you are viewing only your own messages (i.e. the "Instructor" filter is set to you) AND you have only one filter of "Answers" or "Chat" (for safety sakes we make you have to do them separately to prevent marking things as read that you have not read) AND you have not selected "Include read" THEN the "Mark all as read" button becomes available to use.

Remarking messages to "unread" status:

If you mark messages as "read" by mistake you can now revert this also.

This function is only available to the logged on instructor to so reverse the status of messages for them - you cannot "unread" messages belonging to another instructor.

For "read" messages you will se a new option in the "Actions" column - to "Unread". Clink the link and the message is now marked with an unread status.
